Katie Holmes might not be a superstar athlete, but the busy actress does see her marriage to hubby Tom Cruise in quite a sportsmanlike way.

“As a woman, you make the transition from being single to [being] a partner,” she tells the new issue of Glamour. “I have a teammate..

Their team has the fun job of raising daughter Suri, something Katie says has strengthened her.

“I knew I wanted to marry Kate when I met her,” according to Tom Cruise. “After our very first date, I was sure. So, I bought the ring shortly after that first date.”

Cruise, 46, popped the question atop the Eiffel Tower in June 2005, a mere two months after they made their head-spinning public debut, but his plan was nearly foiled by Holmes’ overwhelming feelings of ‘true love’.

“At one point, I thought she was going to ask me to marry her first and I put her off by changing the subject,” he recalls. “I wanted to ask her.”

For Katie, she believes her decision to become the third Mrs. Cruise is proof that everyone has the wrong idea about her.

“There’s a misperception about me that I just became this wallflower, this woman who doesn’t have any control of her life. That I just became a wife. And that’s pretty wrong,” asserts Suri’s mom. “From the very beginning, I’ve made choices in my life that have been very strong. When I met Tom, I was completely in love and, yes, I admired him growing up — he’s Tom Cruise! And, yes, I followed his movies and maybe had his photo up on my wall.”

It’s no surprise to see celebrities in the audience of Katie Holmes current Broadway hit, All My Sons, but the star-power inside the Schoenfeld Theatre on Wednesday afternoon went into overload when the actress’ hubby Tom Cruise was joined by good pals David Beckham and Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham.

For some audience members, it was hard to keep their eyes on the stage with these three superstars in the crowd.

“Tom clapped really loud and laughed when Katie came on stage,” said a fan who was seated in the front row. “They were really into the play. Right at intermission they darted out so no one could come up to them.”

Katie Holmes made her Broadway debut on Thursday night and hubbie Tom Cruise was there to cheer her on vociferously.

“I’m so proud of her,” said Cruise before the curtain went up on the first preview at New York’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

Looking radiant in a royal blue 1940s -style dress, Holmes took the stage with a cast that includes Broadway veterans John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson. At the end of the two-and-a-half-hour production, an enthusiastic Cruise joined the audience in a rousing ovation.
